Participating in GovRAMP
GovRAMP is designed to support government and education organizations at every stage—from initial exploration to full adoption.
Whether you are evaluating how to strengthen cloud security, align procurement processes, or implement standardized requirements, GovRAMP provides a flexible framework that can be adapted to your organization’s needs.
-
What types of organizations are eligible to participate?
Government organizations at the local, state, tribal, and federal levels—as well as public schools, school districts, colleges, and universities—are eligible to participate. Our goal is to support a broad range of public‑sector institutions working to strengthen security and compliance.
-
Is there a cost for government or education organizations?
No. Participation is available at no cost to eligible public‑sector organizations. We believe security and compliance standards should be accessible, transparent, and easy to adopt.
-
How do we begin the participation process?
Getting started with GovRAMP depends on whether you are joining as an individual or on behalf of your organization.
-
Individual Participation: If you are exploring GovRAMP or want to get involved without formal organizational approval, you can join as an individual. This option allows you to access resources, stay informed, and begin engaging with the program. You will be able to choose the appropriate path based on your role—government or education—through the Public Sector Member join page.
-
Organizational Participation: If your organization is ready to formally participate, you can begin the application process as a government or education entity. This includes submitting an official form with authorization from an approved representative to ensure accurate verification and alignment with GovRAMP requirements. Separate application options are available for government organizations and educational institutions.
To get started, visit the Public Sector Member page and select the participation path that best fits your role or organization, or reach out to Government Engagement Team using this form to ask questions before signing up.
-
-
What are the benefits of participating?
Participating organizations gain easier access to trusted, verified vendors; greater alignment with standardized security practices; and reduced duplication of compliance work across departments. The program streamlines procurement, strengthens risk management, and supports consistent regulatory adherence.
-
Do we need to meet technical requirements to join?
Basic organizational verification is required. While no advanced technical setup is needed to participate, your organization may be asked to confirm certain security practices depending on the services you plan to access or use.
-
Can K–12 and higher education participate?
Yes. Both K–12 and higher education institutions are fully eligible to participate in GovRAMP and follow a similar process as government agencies.
Institutions can join either as individuals or as an organization, depending on their level of readiness and internal approval.
-
Individual Participation: Educators or staff can join independently to access resources, stay informed, and begin exploring GovRAMP. You can select the appropriate education pathway on the Public Sector Member join page.
-
Organizational Participation: Schools, districts, and higher education institutions can formally participate by submitting an organizational application with authorization from an approved representative. This ensures proper verification and alignment with GovRAMP requirements. Separate forms are available for education institutions.
To get started, visit the Public Sector Member page to select the appropriate form, or reach out to our team if you need guidance on which option is right for your institution.
-
-
Do organizations need to renew participation?
No. Once an organization is verified and accepted into the program, it does not need to re‑enroll or renew its participation. Organizations remain active unless they request removal or undergo significant structural changes that require updated information.
-
Who can we contact for help?
Our Government Engagement Team (GET) is available to assist with enrollment, verification, updates, and general questions.
To connect with our team, please use the contact form to ensure your request is routed to the appropriate team member for a timely response.
-
How does GovRAMP support procurement?
GovRAMP partners with the National Association of State Procurement Officials (NASPO) to support consistent, efficient, and secure procurement practices across states.
Through this collaboration, GovRAMP aligns its standardized security framework with NASPO’s procurement expertise, helping states streamline vendor evaluations, reduce duplicative assessments, and improve consistency in contract requirements.
This partnership enables procurement teams to more easily identify trusted cloud service providers while maintaining strong oversight of vendor risk.
To learn more about how to apply GovRAMP in your procurement processes, explore the GovRAMP for Procurement page.
